TOURS FOR YOUR
CONVENTION |
TOURS FOR
PITTSBURGH PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS |
|
TOURS FOR PITTSBURGH COMPANIES |
TOURS FOR FAMILY ORGANIZATIONS |
Many organizations would like to have walking
tours custom designed for their members. For example, the Kiwanis Club is having
their state convention in Pittsburgh. We will be presenting two tours for their
members, starting at their convention hotel and covering the types of sites in
which they have expressed an interest.
One area of special expertise is engineering and natural history. Pittsburgh has been a center for engineering development since 1800 and there are many historic sites of great interest. Not only that but Pittsburgh’s unique topography has had a fascinating influence on its development. And of course, architecture, bridges, public art, all these areas can be used to design a tour just for you, your company, your professional organization, your family.
One possible special format would be to walk to the Carnegie Science Center along the riverfront via the new stadiums, visit the fabulous Sportsworks exhibits (sure to fascinate and delight any active person), then walk to some nice restaurant for lunch, then back to your hotel. The possibilities are endless!
To get an idea of the range of sites we can visit, check out Pittsburgh Magazine’s July, 2001, City Guide, where I have the Feature article: “Shake, Amble and Stroll: Walking Tours of Downtown Pittsburgh.” (www.wqed.org/mag/cityguide_curr.html).

Honus Wagner was known as the Flying Dutchman, one of the all-time great shortstops in baseball history |
| Here he is belting one over the Pittsburgh skyline. There are also statues of Willie Stargell and Roberto Clemente around the circumference of PNC Park, the new Pirates' ball field. |

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is titled, "Welcome Home." |
| It's an especially poignant reminder of the gifts these service people gave to their country. |

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is only one of several such monuments along the north bank of the Allegheny River near the Science Center and the Stadiums. |
